All dog breeds react differently so what I would do with one dog I may not do with another dog.
The reason I chose Woof a Beardie collie is for his genetic workability. Because I have many different animals my dogs get to see lots of animals and how I act around those animals is what my dogs get to learn.
When my current dogs were young and showed an interest in the chickens I was quick to teach them that the chickens are off limits so the dogs show no interest in them even if a chicken is trying to eat the dogs bone at the same time.
Woof started showing an interest in the chickens early on even before he was thinking about the boar. Because I knew he would prefer to work the the chickens rather than attack them I see this as a great way to learn about Woof’s temperament and how he will act around another animal. So far woof likes rounding the chickens up and keeping them together and he does not look like he is going to grab any of them. I’m enjoying watching him develop his ability to control another animal without trying to tear it apart.
Each day when Woof’s out of his kennel he will start bailing the chickens until I call him and the other dog’s away to go and bail the boar. Woof does act slightly differently on the boar than he does on the chickens. With the boar woof is more barking at the other dogs which will change as he gains experience.
