Morning on the hill

Two men one woman and an 80 pound boar
Sloan, Bill and Natalie with a hard won 80 pound boar

This hunt has been a long time coming, what makes this hunt different from the many others is that my oldest son Sloan and his girlfriend Natalie were keen to come out for a walk with my other Son Bryce and I. Sloan had not been out for a hunt with his father for quite some time so it was good to have both of my sons out on the hill for a hunt together again. Also Natalie really seemed to enjoy the walk. When Cloud and Fog finally bailed up 800 meters away we started to head around the four wheel drive track rather than straight to the dogs. We managed to get within 140 meters of the dogs before we had to enter the dreaded scrub. 40 meters in under the large pines we had no option but to head into the gorse. At this point I explained to Sloan and Natalie that it was going to get pretty rough from here on in. About two minutes later when I turned around there was only Bryce following me, so it was good to see the Sloan and Natalie had taken the sensible option as they where only wearing shorts and tee shirts. Which reminds me that Sloan did give me a hard time at the start of the hunt about wearing long pants and a jacket on such a nice day and that I must be getting soft in my old age. Right now I was pleased that I had those longs and jacket on. Bryce who was following right behind me at this point was only wearing shorts and a tee shirt and ended up with many good scratches to show for his effort. As we closed in on the action the dogs grabbed the pig and when I took a step forward onto some blackberry I actually went through it  and stood on Cloud. This caused him to let go and the pig broke another couple of meters. Finally I got the tail of the wee 80 pound boar and ended his days of running around the hills. Bryce put in a good effort in carrying the young boar out through the gorse and blackberry, up to the track and half way back to the truck before he would let me have a turn.
