How to catch more pigs
Whether we are hunting for pleasure and food or trying to win the local competition, we all want to find any pigs that are about and catch those that we choose. We don’t always succeed.
How can we increase our chances and catch more pigs?
One way available to us all is to improve our dog handling skills, and the training and skill level of our dog. The more time we put into working with our dog in a controlled environment, the better it will become both at finding and bailing pigs, and at understanding what we expect and ask of it.
I am talking about having somewhere where we have pigs in a natural environment and that we can have our dog work with, practicing the bail, gaining confidence, and where we can be right there seeing what is happening and actively training our dog to work for us.
If we can get ourselves into this situation we can:
See what our dog is doing at all times
Observe how our dog reacts to various size pigs
Reinforce positive behaviours
Modify or eliminate unwanted behaviours
Observe how our dog reacts to our commands while on a pig
Better understand how to get our dog working for us
