An easy pig

Fog and Cloud bailing when I first arrived

Things have been getting busy lately as my wife and I are planning on building a house on our block of land before next winter.  Also we are moving up to live in the hut until we get a building up. So last night I was up until 1.30 am this morning clearing branches from the pine trees that I had been pruning so that it would be clear for the digger that was due to turn up at 10.30 today, to make a start on the track and the building site. I woke up just after 6am and could not help myself I just needed to get out for a quick hunt. I

The all exciting part of pig hunting that all pig hunters enjoy but sometimes finish to quick. The perfect time for both dog and hunter to learn

only took the two dogs Fog and Cloud, Lightning is going to be out hunting tomorrow morning with my son Bryce. I left the hut at 7am and was back by 8 am with a 100 pound boar. I had both dogs running along in front of the 4 wheeler on a reasonable flat track through the forestry when Fog tracked away out to 400 meters so I got off the bike and walked into some young Douglas furs, 50 meters in I heard something moving through quite fast past me only a row of trees away. At this point Cloud took off and I

got to see the boar making a break for it on the next face. As I moved around the hill I spotted the boar running for his life about 400 meters away with Fog 20 seconds behind and Cloud another 20 seconds back heading for the creek and that was as far as he got. I jogged back to the bike and rode to the action. I took my time watching the boar and dogs as I wanted to get a few photos before I knocked him over. You can see in a couple of the photos that the bike is in the shot.

Pigs don’t come any easier than this with the bike right there ready to do the carrying for me

What brought things to an end was we where all standing out in the open when the boar decide to have a charge at me, so I took him out first from about 2 meters. Once he was gutted I only had to bring the bike ten meters over to him and put him on the front for the easy ride back to the hut. All in under and hour in what can be hard country to hunt sometimes.
