Training Gus not to enter the house

I teach all of my dogs not to enter our house, so the training has to start early. Because we like to leave the doors open, the opportunity is always their for a dog to try and sneak in to eat the cat food. While Gus is young I keep an eye on him and when I catch him coming into the house I just say AHH in a deep tone of voice and he straight away knows he’s got to think about what he’s doing. Because humans and dogs don’t speak the same language, it’s important to remember that the words we say are not as important as the tone in which we say the words.

The way that I’m interacting with Gus is getting him to understand what is a good thing, happy tone and bad thing, deep tone. The more things that I teach Gus this way the quicker he will learn things. One of the most important things to remember is never lose your cool Because then your dog can become flustered and scared and even people can’t think clearly when they are flustered.
