My wife Janice and I finally got to move in to our new house on the 25th of July. At the time we did not have the power on but we could run an extension cord from the shed to the house for lights and to get the califont to work. Greg Townsend the electrician has been up a couple of times and we now have lights working in all of the rooms through the 24 volt system, there is still a bit more work to do on the 240 volt side of things as well as a satellite dish for the TV and an aerial for the cell phone. Rates Plumbers where also back up connecting the toilet, shower, kitchen sink and storm water drains.

Janice took two weeks off work to paint the whole inside of the house which was no easy task, there was a number of nights when Janice did not get finished until after midnight. While she was working hard out painting I was outside on a digger putting in some extra tracks. One night I did not get out of the digger until four am then I carried on working the digger for the drainage guys during the day.

All we have left now to finish before we can get the council up to sign the house off is the vanity unit in the bathroom which is still on order and the power connected.

Then I can start concentrating back on the dog training. I will start putting some dates up on the front page of my web site for those hunter who have been so patiently waiting for me to finish the house.

In life we all get opportunities some people miss opportunities simple because they can be very tunnel vision and not notice them other people don’t like to step outside of the square and prefer to just work a 40 hour week for someone else. I would encourage any person who has followed my project of building this house to see what you can do to push yourself and achieve a goal. For myself it has meant sacrificing a lot of hunting opportunities as well as not doing the dog training that I so much love doing.

We have had our property for seven years so just to get to the build stage has been well thought though. The build itself from the shed, water tank, power, septic tank and the house was less than three months. This to me is a sacrifice that I will never regret as I now have what every pig hunter only dreams of. I can lean out of the window and whistle a dog to go and bail a pig up and to go for a hunt I only have to go out of my gate to look for a wild boar.

The dog kennels have been moved up behind the house. The dogs love it up here as they get an extra two hours of sun a day.

Again I would like to say a big thank you to all of those people who have either helped me with my project, encouraged me or just followed my wife and I as it is not that often that people get to help build their own house. I have learn’t so much during this project as I have been on hand every day helping out.

Now I can go back to my passion of helping other hunters to get the best out of their dogs. I will start putting up dates onto my home page that I have available for any hunter wanting to come in training, if any of them suit you just get in touch with me either through me web site or email me on bill@pighunt.co.nz or phone me on 0212950206
