Ernest came in with his one year old bitch Remu.
He wanted to give her some time on pigs.
It had rained during the night so I suggested we take the dogs for a quick hunt. We took my two Gus and Bro which I put their muzzles on but I did not put a muzzle on Remu as she did not seem like a tough dog. It did not take long for the dogs to catch a 60lb boar. When Gus found this pig I thought he must have slipped his muzzle as it squealed. When we got to it Gus had it pushed into a tree but just as Ernest was about to grab it the pig went over the bank and down into the river. When we got down Remu was holding the ear. Ernest dispatched this pig giving him some meat to take home.

Next we took Remu, Bruce and Bro into the pig block. Before going into the pig block I put a muzzle on Remu so she couldn’t grab a pig. At first we had a lot of trouble getting Remu to show any interest in the pigs. After a while I decided to take the muzzle off her.
This did not make any difference. Next we removed the dog collar off Remu and this was like a switch going off. Straight away Remu joined my dogs at the bail.
Because Ernest lives in town he could not have his dogs barking all of the time so he had put a bark collar on Remu.
Remu is now the third dog that I have seen that have been affected by a bark collar. When we caught the pig in the morning Remu wanted to grab this pig because she knew nothing else.
Once we got Remu barking we put the collar back on her. Even when there was a younger boar there she stayed focused on the big boar.
Next time Ernest is out hunting and Remu gets to catch up with a pig she will now know that she doesn’t have to grab the pig but can bark. I have seen soo many times where a nicely bailed pig will break when a dog flys in for a bite.
Keeping the pig calm is soo much easier on the pig the dogs and the hunter and you don’t get stressed and bruised pork.
